CRIMINAL SIMULATION (Counterfeit Money)

Loudon County Sheriff Tim Guider announced the arrest of Dwayne Gresham, age 35, of 5283 Kingston Highway in Lenoir City for Criminal Simulation (counterfeit money).

Sheriff Guider advised that on April 13, the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit conducted a traffic stop at the Weigel’s on Highway 321 in Lenoir City due to an illegal license tag. Upon further investigation, Mr. Gresham had possession of a twenty dollar bill that appeared to be counterfeit. Gresham was then asked if he had purchased anything at the store and he stated he had. Investigators determined that the money he had spent in Weigel’s was also counterfeit. Narcotics officers also found what appeared to be Xanax and a homemade pill crusher. Other money was also found that all had the same serial number. Sheriff Guider noted that the CID (Criminal Investigation Division) Unit and Lenoir City Detectives joined the case along with the U.S. Secret Service due to an increasing amount of counterfeit money being passed throughout Tennessee.

After obtaining a search warrant, investigators seized from Gresham’s residence a computer and a copier. Sheriff Guider advised that the Secret Service will review the case with the U.S. Attorney’s office for possible federal prosecution. He also warns store clerks to be alert for any denomination of counterfeit money, as counterfeiting is on the rise due to the advance of technology and the quality of the printing.

Charges listed at this time are:

Criminal Simulation (Counterfeit Money)

Theft under $500.00

Possession of Schedule 4 Narcotic without a prescription

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Released: Wednesday - April 14, 2010
