Hotchkiss Valley Road Barn File (Arson)

Today at approximately 11:09 A.M. deputies received a call to Hotchkiss Valley Road on a barn fire. Upon arrival the barn was fully engulfed. The co-owners of the barn are: Jimmy Williams, Betty Brown and Kenneth Cook. The fire was thought to be arson because there was not electricity to the building. There were several bales of hay lost in the fire as well as a tractor and hay bailer that was damaged.

At about 2:00 P.M., Sheriff Department Detectives received a call from School Resource Officer Scott Brewster with the Lenoir City Police Department that a subject (juvenile) had left school around 10:15 A.M. and had returned to school smelling of smoke. Upon further investigation it was learned that the juvenile was friends with one of the workers at the barn and had previously been to the property. The barn is located ½ mile from Lenoir City High School. Detectives Patrick Upton and Jason Smith interviewed the juvenile and he admitted to setting the fire of the barn. He advised that it happened when he was burning some hay while trying to kill some bees. He also admitted to bringing the matches. His clothes were seized and he is being charged as a juvenile. No other subjects have been indicated at this time.

The Lenoir City High School authorities, The Lenoir City Police Department School Resource Officer and The Loudon County Sheriffs Department has all worked together to solve this crime.
